The paint on your car is what gives it colour and style. Unfortunately, as it is always exposed to the elements, this means that over time it can become faded and not quite look its best.
No one likes the idea of a car with faded paint, so thankfully there are things that you can do to make sure that it always looks its best. In this post, we share our car paint care tips to help you take the best care of your prized possession.
Washing Your Car
The most obvious way to keep your paint looking great is to make sure that you regularly wash your car. Cars get dirty and the dirt, grease and debris can build up over time and even dull the paintwork.
You should aim to wash your car on a weekly basis, and washing it by hand using a good-quality car wash solution and a microfiber towel offers the best finish, compared to an automatic car wash.
Always wash from the roof, downwards, and rinse with clean water afterwards. However, make sure you work quickly so the water isn’t left to dry on its own accord.
Drying Your Car
Once you have washed your car it is important that you always dry it off. This will stop any water spots from forming and will give it a beautiful finish that everyone will be jealous of.
All you need is a microfiber towel to dry it off, as this gives a gentle yet effective approach to drying. Try not to drag the towel across the paint, which can trap remaining dirt and scratch the paint.
One tip is to park your car in a cool, shaded area, when drying to prevent the sun from drying the paint too quickly.
Detail Your Car
There are a variety of different products that you can use after you have washed and dried your car. Detailing, as it is known, is the step before waxing that will make sure that any smaller particles of dirt are properly removed from the paint surface.
You can choose from compound, clay bars, glaze and polish, all of which offer varying degrees of abrasiveness. It really depends how dirty your car is as to which one that you use.
No matter what method you choose, do make sure that you understand how to use it properly; else you are at risk of damaging the paint. If in doubt, employ a professional to do this for you.
The last stage of making sure that your car is fully protected, is to seal all that hard work with wax.
Your car will only need waxing once every 3 months or so, even with regular washing. The wax is designed to not only make sure that your car is looking shiny and new, but also that it is fully protected from everything that life can throw at it.
Apply the wax with a microfiber towel or an electronic cleaning buffer, one area at a time, allowing it to set. Make sure to read the recommended set time for the type of wax you are using.
Once set, it is time to buff the wax in using a gentle circular motion that overlaps as you work across each section.
